History
The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Diponegoro University, officially established the Governmental Sciences Department on January 1, 1968, under the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences. Historically, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Diponegoro University, was founded in 1957. Before becoming Diponegoro University, the Faculty merged with the Faculty of Law under the name Faculty of Law and Public Knowledge (FHPM). The FHPM consisted of two divisions: Law and Social Sciences. The Social Division included a major or concentration in Governmental Sciences.
In 1961, in accordance with Government Regulation No. 7 of 1961, Semarang University was renamed Diponegoro University and designated a state university. Then, in 1968, the FHM was officially divided into two faculties: the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences. One of the pioneering figures of the faculty and department at FISIP UNDIP was Prof. Sukarjan Hadi Sutikno. Based on the Decree of the Rector of Diponegoro University No. In 1983, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences was renamed the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Diponegoro University.
Historically, the Department of Government Science had existed since 1957, but officially became part of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Diponegoro University (FISIP) in 1968. In 2016, the Department of Government Science was no longer a department but became a Government Science study program under the Department of Politics and Government.
The initial purpose of establishing the Department of Government Science was to address the government’s need for trained personnel to become government officials, a resource that could not be met solely by government educational institutions. The Department of Government Science at Diponegoro University (FISIP) has three concentrations: Governance, Government Behavior, and Intermediary Political Power.
